Shahnoorz is an apt example of making it big in the culinary world. Started off as a hole-in-the-wall sort of place, it has now grown to a full-fledged restaurant serving kebab and biryani albeit with limited seating currently. While the ambiance may not be anything earth-shattering, it does give off a warm and hospitable feel. And the kebab skewer counter up front, only adds to the entire appeal. Starters and Kebab Having heard so much of the kebab at Shahnoorz, we were extremely eager to try the same and quite salivating at the mouth. The Murgh Achari Tikka [Rs. 200] and the Murgh Pahadi Tikka [Rs. 200] had tender boneless chicken pieces marinated and cooked in the tandoor however were a tad over-salty. The Tandoori Mushrooms [Rs. 180] too disappointed us a little as they were too watery and diluted the overall dish. The Golden Wings [Rs. 200] had some great flavors however the Makrana Kebab [Rs. 210] stole the show, and our hearts. Absolutely melt-in-the-mouth with top-notch taste. Loved the charred edges to the pieces. #YumYum #HighlyRecommended The Irani Tandoori Chicken [Rs. 220/440] had good flavors but was a little too creamy for my palate. On the other hand, the Shahnoorz Special Kebab [Rs. 280] were stuffed with minced chicken and cheese and tasted heavenly. #DeliciousDelicious Shawarma Rolls The Chicken Nizami Shawarma Roll [Rs. 125] as well as the Chicken Bhuna Roll [Rs. 110] had a nice hit of respective spices at the end however the roomali roti for wrap of the bhuna roll didn’t appeal to me as much. Mains While kebab might be Shahnoorz highest selling items, they are no slouches when it comes to serving top-notch main courses either. The Murgh Musallam [Rs. 250/440] was radically different in presentation to our expectations, what with an egg omlette covering the gravy and meat [a family twist to the recipe]. However the taste was just as good as expected. #YumYum The Kadhai Paneer [Rs. 180] had the expected look and taste however a special mention for the super-soft paneer chunks. #DeliciousDelicious The Chicken Angara [Rs. 210] had a lovely smoky aroma and taste to the perfectly cooked chicken and went very well with the garlic butter naan. #FingerLickin The Assorted Bread Basket included the usual suspects of rotis and naan with a unique addition of the Za’ataar Naan which, quite frankly, tasted delicious without any mains for company. The Mutton Kapsa Rice [Rs. 320] was a revelation for me. A unique preparation of rich basmati rice with citrus fruits, boneless mutton chunks, aromatic herbs served with pineapple raita. An Arabic dish in its origins, the mutton is cooked separately and then with the spices and marination to give it a melt-in-mouth consistency. The combination of the citric pineapple with the meat was one that worked quite well. Desserts Desserts at Shahnoorz are pretty limited which is acceptable considering they are primarily a kebab and biryani outlet. The Malai Phirni [Rs. 95], served in a kulhad, was pretty to look at and had a nice thick consistency however was a little too sweet. On the other hand, the Gajar Halwa [Rs. 95] was delicious. Topped with pieces of cashew, this was finger-lickin’ good when served hot. #YumYum Armed with traditional family recipes, Shahnoorz has grown leaps and bounds from a roadside stall to a proper restaurant with limited seating. The taste remains impeccable, as always.
